All of da’Tanla Mélange’s artwork is made entirely by hand by adult women
working in traditional silk villages in East
Asia according to ancient techniques of stitch
work. Nearly all threads used are made of high-quality
Japanese-sourced silk embroidered onto either
silk, or French-sourced cotton substrates. Each
individual piece requires between 2 weeks to
18 months or longer to painstakingly finish,
and no two pieces are identical. We hope that
you enjoy silk embroidery as much as we do, as
one of our primary goals is to help keep this
rich tradition alive.
Our Mission
It is our objective to share this beautiful
art form with you and thereby help preserve
a rich and enduring tradition in East Asia.
Traditional embroidery is a threatened art
form, and each year it gets harder and harder
to recruit new apprentices to the field. By
selling embroideries which are amongst the
finest examples of this art form available
anywhere in the world, we directly support
dozens of artisans and the communities in which
they live. We also routinely run special promotions
designed to support San Francisco area non-profits,
and donate a portion of our proceeds to non-profits
operating in East Asia. If you enjoy this artwork
and would like more information, please contact
us.
